Lockwood Beck - North Yorkshire’s Premier Fly Fishery

LOCKWOOD Beck is not only maintaining its reputation as one of the finest stillwater fisheries in Great Britain - but improving it.

When Lockwood was voted the best in the country, by readers of Trout Fisherman magazine, it was difficult to see how it could be further improved.

But since winning that accolade Lockwood has developed into an even better fishery. The idyllic scenery is the same, the clear water just as appealing, but other aspects of the venue have moved forward.

The new lodge is bigger and more welcoming, and the tuition on offer from top instructors is proving increasingly popular.

But there’s also improvements below the surface, for there has been an increase in the number of quality wild brown trout being caught. The rainbows, almost all fin perfect, are as good as ever, but the browns have added a new dimension.

They can be caught throughout the season, but from late summer to the close of the season is the best time to encounter one of these superb fish. Like the rainbows they can be found from all stretches of the bank, and from boats.

Lockwood rainbows and browns continue to fall for dries, lures and nymphs, and stocking levels ensure that most anglers catch fish, But this is a challenging water, where the more thoughtful anglers tend to enjoy the best fishing.

At 60 acres and with varying depths and features which respond in different ways to changing weather and seasons, Lockwood will stretch the best of anglers throughout the year.

Many regularly enjoy good catches, but no angler can honestly say that he (or she) totally has the measure of Lockwood.

If you haven’t accepted the challenge yet ... it’s time you did.
