Prospects for Opening Day 4th April 2009

The Fishery will open at 8am and close at 8.00pm

All boats for the 4th are booked and only two are left for the 5th.

The fishing should be excellent with around 1200 rainbows from 1lb 8oz to 10lb stocked just days before we open. Last year the day was very cold with rain and a strong westerly wind yet the rod average was an impressive 7.3. With opening day three weeks later than last year conditions should be a lot better. Bank anglers usually have the best of the sport, Andrew Bowker had 30 from the dam last year on lures such as Dawson’s Olive, Cats Whisker and Black and Olive Nomads fished on an intermediate line. Boats should do well with fish usually found in the top 6ft.Last year Andrew Davison and Ray Barrett had 35 between them on small lures and nymphs fished on floating lines. Black and Olive Buzzer, P.T.N, and Hears Ear nymph also caught a lot of fish. With the later start small spider patterns and dries such as C.D.D Shuttlecocks’ and Klinkhamers will account for quite a lot of fish if the conditions are right.

All last years catch returns can be found on the Catch Return Archive on the web site.
