Very changeable weather with strong cold westerly winds made for difficult fishing conditions on some days.
Andrew Grabham caught 39 and William Leitch 14 from the Whitby end of the dam on lures some of the fish were browns to 4lb. Graham Southam caught the best fish of the season so far the 12lb 6oz rainbow took a cats whisker in very shallow water from the Whitby end of the dam. Tony Legg couldn’t believe his eyes when an 11lb 4oz rainbow took his size 12 dry black spider, Tony took 15min to land the fish from the top moor side block. 12year old Ian Ferguson caught his biggest fish so far a lovely 8lb 4oz rainbow from the moor side Ian caught the fish on a home tied Montana. Some boat anglers had good catches Andrew Sowerby and Kevin Glen caught 31 between them on buzzers and nymphs and M Dowkings caught 10 fishing off the holly bush and kept 4 for 22lb 8oz (9lb 4oz- 8lb 4oz-3lb 4oz and 1lb 12oz) the heaviest bag so far this season. There were some nice browns caught as well Paul Richardson and George Binks both returned browns of over 6lb and Steve Ploughman kept one of 4lb 8oz. Quite a few of the browns that were returned were over 4lb.
Prospects for the coming week weather permitting should be excellent with 240 rainbows to be stocked 200 1lb 8oz to 2lb and 40 3lb to 6lb. With the water warming up anglers can expect more surface activity with some good buzzer hatches and possibly some olives.
Best Lures: – Dawson’s Olive, Dawson’s Nomad, Black Fritz, and Cats Whisker.
Best nymphs: – Buzzers, G R H E, Pheasant tail, and Bloodworm.
