Sunday 20th March

28 Anglers have caught 89 Rainbows to 6lb.
Rod Average 3.1
46 Rainbows were kept at an average weight of 2lb 6oz
43 Rainbows to 6lb were returned.

Only four of the 28 anglers failed to land a fish today. We had a lot of fish showing all over the lake but particularly down the moor side were some big buzzers were hatching off. As on most days recently a lot of fish were lost.

Bank

R Freeman landed 9 to 3lb 4oz and lost five fishing from the high bank with a small Damsel fished on a floating line. Bill Davison didn’t start until 2pm he landed 6 to 3lb Bill lost a few as well. Mervin Sanders landed 4 to 3lb on an Orange Nomad.

Boats

13 members of Northumbrian Waters Game angling club fished today with nine fishing from 5 boats and four from the bank they Caught 47 rainbows to 6lb keeping 32. P Wagget caught 13 and Bob Robson had the heaviest 3 fish bag of 8lb 1oz.

Monday 21st March

14 Anglers have caught 89 Rainbows to 4lb
Rod Average 6.4
13 Rainbows were kept at an average weight of 2lb 6oz
76 Rainbows to 4lb were returned.

Malcom and Bernard caught all their fish before the lake was stocked. We had another day of good buzzer hatches and plenty fish showing on top.

Bank

William Leitch caught 9 rainbows to 4lb from the moor side on buzzers fished under an indicator. D Hare caught 4 from the moor side on buzzers.

Boats

Malcom Jefferson caught 36 rainbows to 4lb on buzzers fished under an indicator from the wood side and bottom of the moor side. Bernard Fitzhugh caught 25 to 4lb fishing out from the bottom moor side block and from the moor side on a team of three buzzers. Bernard caught quite a few fish on the hang. Mrs Olive Murray caught 7 on Damsels fishing out from the top moor side block.
We stocked after closing time today with 500 more rainbows, this is just some of them going in.

Tuesday 22nd March

13 Anglers have caught 145 Rainbows to 8lb
Rod Average 11.2
18 Rainbows were kept at an average weight of 3lb 2oz
127 Rainbows to 8lb were returned.

Bank

Colin Brown caught 32 to 4lb on Black buzzers from the dam. Neal Stonehouse fished on our last four-hour permit and caught 7 on Cut Throat Cats keeping 1 for 6lb 8oz.

Boats

Andrew Sowerby caught 28 to 8lb on buzzers from all areas of the lake. S Gera caught 20 keeping 3 for 8lb and L Profitt had 20 keeping 3 for 11lb. Les Davison caught 11 to 5lb on Cut Throat Cats.

Wednesday 23rd March

11 Anglers have caught 139 Rainbows to 9lb
Rod Average 12.6
11 Rainbows were kept at an average weight of 3lb 8oz
128 Rainbows to 9lb were returned.

Bank

Graham Southam caught 27 to 6lb on Black Buzzers and Cut Throat Cats from the wading area at the culvert. Ian Morrison and Michael Kilvington had 11 each from the overflow end of the dam on Black Nomads.

Boats

Mark Jones Caught 37 rainbow’s to 9lb from the culvert, Mark caught on Cut Throat Cats keeping his first fish of the day at 7lb and returning one of 9lb.Jason Nunn caught 31 to 4lb on Buzzers and Surface patterns. Les Davison caught 14 to 4lb on Cats Whisker and S Redpath caught 9 Keeping 3 for 8lb 5oz.

Thursday 24th March

8 Anglers have caught 59 Rainbows to 10lb
Rod Average 7.4
7 Rainbows were kept at an average weight of 2lb 9oz
52 Rainbows to 10lb were returned.

Bank

Graham Southam caught 19 on Orange lures from the wading area at the culvert. Colin Brown caught 14 to 10lb on Olive lures fished on an intermediate line from the high bank and overflow end of the dam. Jason Hind and J Hewart both had 6 fishing on our last four-hour permit.

Boats

Ian Vickers caught 7 fishing down the wood side

Friday 25th March

40 Anglers have caught 228 Rainbows to 5lb
Rod Average 5.7
57 Rainbows were kept at an average weight of 2lb 12oz
171 Rainbows to 5lb were returned.

Only 5 of the 40 anglers fishing today failed to land any fish.

Bank

Graham Southam caught 18 to 5lb on orange lures from the bottom of the moor side that’s 64 fish in his last three visits. Adam Greensmith caught 12 from the high bank on Black Fritz fished on a sinking line. Darren Parry caught 10 from the overflow end of the dam on Cutthroat cats fished slowly on a sinking line. Bill Davison caught 9 keeping three for 11lb from the dam on the same as Darren. Ken Johnson caught 9 from the Whitby end of the dam on Olive Nomads fished on a slow sinking line keeping 3 for 11lb 8oz. Andrew Greet caught 7 to 5lb 4oz from the dam on Dawson’s Nomads. Rob Mclay caught 6 keeping 4 for 11lb 4oz.

Boats

Gareth Tilley and Andrew McPhail caught 29 between them keeping 4 for 9lb. D & L Jefferson caught 25 keeping 7 for 21lb 8oz. G Smith and J Hoyle caught 16 keeping 6 for 21lb.  Mrs Olive Murray landed 10 and lost as many off fishing out from the jetty all were caught on a small Olive Nomad. Colin Lynas caught 8 on Olive Nomads from the bottom of the moor side.Ian Smith caught 5 keeping 3 for 10lb 4oz.

Float Tubs

W Ward caught 13 to 4lb on small cats and buzzer fished slow and deep. S Walker caught 8 to 4lb on the same patterns.

Saturday 26th March

4 Anglers have caught 34 Rainbows to 8lb

4 Rainbows were kept at an average weight of 3lb 4oz
30 Rainbows to 8lb were returned.

The weather forecast put anglers off today but as the regulars know in a strong SSE wind all the moor side and the top of the wood side are relatively sheltered hold a lot of fish.

Bank

Only four anglers out today. Mike Ayton caught 22 keeping one of 5lb 12oz and returning one of 8lb. Mike caught from the moor side and overflow end of the dam with most coming from the top of the wood side all caught on small Black Nomads. Steve Mills caught 7 to 4lb on Cut Throat Cats from the top of the wood side. Dave Walker had 3 from the moor side and Keith Bunnett caught 2 to 3lb and managed to lose 5 more off from the top moor side block.

The Strong Winds stopped the Boats going out today.
